WSP Ruined Parsons Brinckerhoff

Pros

Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) invested in their employees PB centralized global functions, resulting in global consistency and economies of scale savings PB provided work flexibility

Cons

After WSP purchased PB, investments in employee development ceased. WSP decentralized many functions and took a regional approach, resulting in a patchwork of systems and support staff. Each region now has to purchase their own systems, resulting in drastic increase in costs. Management only wants to push costs down to regions even if it ultimately costs 10x more money. WSP doesn't understand or care about work flexibility/employee happiness. Upper management is too busy trying to grow business through acquisitions and is not focused on managing current business. Once acquisitions take place, the integration process is poorly communicated and sloppy at best.

Pros

The technical bench strength is missing. Their turnover rate is about 30% per year. It is a revolving door, with the good ones leaving within a year, and the dead wood sticking around forever. They have several lawsuits on-going, with poor, shoddy engineering and planning, and it is not uncommon for WSP to be kicked off job sites for sheer incompetence. They prefer hiring associates rather that full time employees to lower their overhead costs. They work the young engineers to the bone, with little or no extra compensation. A company performing technical work is being led by VP's and Directors who are art graduates, blue collared technologists or accountants, so what do you expect!

Cons

WSP acquires companies with no planning or strategic direction. It is a big whale with its mouth wide open, swallowing whatever comes in. The Oracle implementation was a joke. People are still struggling. They have a hard time integrating companies and their ERP system is a big failure. They told people to stop complaining about the Oracle project. They have also insisted on people returning to the office 3 days a week, so if WFH is your thing, think again. Look at the job board, and see how many vacancies they have! There's an obvious retention problem this company is facing, and that speaks volumes about the leadership.

Pros

The reviews on here are a mixed bag, so I’m gonna say your experience is definitely tied to how great your department is and how efficient your manager is - so this review is purely through MY experience. Starting with pros, you definitely get to work and collaborate with a great number of people, even outside your team. If you’re just starting your career, it can potentially expose you to a variety of very interesting projects that will be good for you and your portfolio. Benefits are expensive, but I guess better than most firms The admins are wonderful people (San Diego)

Cons

Manager loved to micromanage, her position might as well be a Micromanager - made tasks harder than it shouldve been, does not communicate well, overall just awful performance for someone thats supposed to be leader. Upper management does not care no matter how many times they say they do. They only see you as a number, and it’s been made evident in so many in person meetings. Downtown san diego does not have a parking structure for employees - to pay an extra $150 for parking every month is just ridiculous
