Pros

As far as Retail careers are concerned. The pay with Walgreens is about the best I have encountered. There are possibilities for career growth but you must be patient. The benefits are outstanding. Medical, Dental, Profit Sharing.

Cons

Open all the time. You will never experience Holidays like normal people. Schedules are never consistent and if you want to get promoted, well, 60-80 hours a week are normal.

Pros

Great benefits, including health insurance and profit sharing. Most management is laid back and don't ride you all day long on what your duties are. Possibility for promotion is endless, provided you have the skills. Many different job titles in the company, not just working inside the pharmacy or the store.

Cons

Management can sometimes be incompetent, which hinders the job you, as an employee, do.

Pros

Walgreens matches the first 2% of 401k contributions 3 to 1. This year my first 2% will total roughly $2,100 so the company will contribute $6,300. As a pharmacist I am working for a company that basically does not exist without my position. Pharmacy accounts for 60 to 70% of sales and trust me everyone knows it. This makes me a valuable asset.

Cons

Despite the largest percent of sales being from the pharmacy we are often short staffed. It seems we are constantly cutting hours to decrease cost. In this rough economy the entire store is losing hours on a regular basis to keep stock holders happy. At the same time corporate continues to preach customer service as being paramount to everything else. Cut hours and give better customer service, huh.
