Pros

The fellow associates you get to meet and know and the common ground we all have trying to eek out a living from the low wages the corporate giant allows us.

Cons

The position I had as customer service manager is interesting, in that you are given the responsibilities of an assistant manager, but you receive the pay of a regular associate. Also no matter how hard you work at your job, you are rarely, if ever, given a" pat on the back", and all you have to look forward to is your .30 to .40 cent raise a year! The stress I received at Wal-Mart, in my position, was certainly worth much more than the meager wage I was granted. Often the super-store I worked at did not schedule enough people to complete the task at hand, and therefore as the lowest manager on the totem pole, I was expected to try and fill in the gaps...impossible and a disaster! At Wal-Mart if you are in upper management, you work hard and you are treated well financially and otherwise, but if you are a regular associate you might as well be chopping cotton by hand on an old southern plantation... are the slave days truly gone?!

Pros

If you can survive Walmart, you can do anything anywhere. The pace is extremely fast with limited resource support. So you have to be creative and people oriented. Otherwise, no favor from others.

Cons

No resource support or peers look for title to prioritize requests.

Pros

There is room for advancement and multiple departments to work in. There are always many tasks and duties to keep you busy.

Cons

The Wal-Mart culture is one that encourages disingenuous employee/manager relations. Policymakers are too far removed to understand practical application in the store. Many of the policies detract from employee performance and are generally unnecessary. The employee meetings are dehumanizing and embarrassing. They make the employees look like performing monkeys. This kind of environment is not conducive to excellent customer service.
