Pros

benifits are good compaired to other retailers

Cons

The expections are very high at Wal Mart. The job that is given to you is difficult because you work short handed. The culture that Mr. Sam Started is long gone. Department managers sales volume exceed the sales of most stores in town. The pay compensation if far less that the responsibility they have.

Pros

Lots of employment opportunities. Opportunity for people new to the job market to work for a retail employer with benefits, limited as they may be. Exposure to the retail "big box" marketing environment, which could lead to better employment opportunities with other major retailers.

Cons

Lack of communication between middle management and associates. Lack of situaltional awareness by lower/middle management.

Pros

Wal-Mart is constantly improving and listening to feedback from employees. They are also working with outside companies to ensure that salary levels are comparable with the industry. Personnel management used to be very bad about over-working salary associates, but they have improved work-life balance over the past 5 years greatly.

Cons

Sr. Mgmt is out of touch with the rank and file workers. There is so much focus on diversity that many feel there is an environment based more on political correctness than on performance and results. Wal-Mart seems to be dumbing-down their hiring at the corporate level and mostly hiring project managers and less professionals with skills and experience. Stock hasn't gone anywhere in 10 years. It used to be big selling point for working here, but is now worthless.
