Pros

Terrific colleagues who are intelligent and passionate as well as kind to one another. The Institute listens to its employees and is making efforts to diversify. The institute is increasingly empowering experts in the global offices (as opposed to USA) to lead on a global level.

Cons

Very crowded at the top with egoistic experts who consume opportunities that would otherwise encourage junior colleagues to grow. Feels like you can't complain about the attitudes and behaviors of higher ups because they're famous/thought leaders/WRI's bread and butter. The pay is truly terrible and it takes a long time to move up the ladder. You need impressive degrees to work here, but you'll never be able to pay them off if you do.

Pros

- Work-life balance: Can't stress how important work-life balance is. It wasn't something I experienced before WRI. 5 - day work week, ample paid leaves and no disturbance on weekends. - Opportunity to learn and lead: Management encourages you to take up new skills and become an expert in those

Cons

- Compensation: Not very think-tank equivalent. Compensation not given on quality of work, but purely on number of years of experience. So unfair to younger colleagues. - Turn-around time: Very laid back approach. No urgency to take up projects or research,

One bad apple spoils the bunch

Pros

Superb mission and values, stimulating and rewarding work, flexibility, room for growth depending on your team

Cons

No accountability for narcissistic “high level” staff who contribute very little, belittle others to deflect from their own failures, and create a toxic work environment. Instead the worst performing team members are coddled and given the benefit of the doubt because of their seniority and ability to act chummy with the right people. Complaining to your manager won’t get anywhere.
