Pros

Great mission with really talented staff

Cons

- Complicated job titles and structures - Lack of transparency when it comes to salaries and promotions - Lack of policies that enforce managers to respect staff's time off (R&R, AWS, PTO, holidays etc). It doesn't work when this is dependent on managers' approval and they only care about work. - Lack of 360 reviews

One bad apple spoils the bunch

Pros

Superb mission and values, stimulating and rewarding work, flexibility, room for growth depending on your team

Cons

No accountability for narcissistic “high level” staff who contribute very little, belittle others to deflect from their own failures, and create a toxic work environment. Instead the worst performing team members are coddled and given the benefit of the doubt because of their seniority and ability to act chummy with the right people. Complaining to your manager won’t get anywhere.

Pros

The leadership is delightful, supportive, motivating, and talented. The staff are incredibly competent and a joy to work with. They offer a generous PTO package.

Cons

Good luck using that PTO. It can be very difficult to disconnect from the office. As a result, it’s not uncommon for staff to forfeit PTO each year for not using enough of it. Don’t get sick or have a chronic condition. Health and dental insurance plans are really weak if you live in DC. So yeah, work, work, work...night and day, evenings and weekends too. Oh! And don’t forget those holidays. But...it’s for a mission that requires our passion, and that usually makes the long days feel short. It truly is a privilege to work here.
