Pros

Xerox provides a lot of tools to improve your skills. They encourage growth. They are very understanding about your personal life and also very flexible.

Cons

High level execs are clueless. Some areas are understaffed and overworked. They are on a hiring freeze and currently hire through a temp agency, so there is no benifit package for contracted employees.

Pros

Although the building was a former factory it was ok. One thing great is Xerox spends a lot of money on hardware/software so you never have to do your work on outdated equipment. There are a lot of very smart and talented people there and mostly everyone is willing to help you along the way. The pay and benefits were not bad, probably a little better than other places in town.

Cons

Typical corporate nonsense eventually caused major inertia in getting anything done. Somehow the corporate culture went to a paranoid, big brother setup where they watched you every minute of the day. Coming and going was tracked by your badge and every minute of time was ridiculously tracked in a TFS database. Even time you didn't spend on a particular project had to be tracked so the numbers would add up.

Pros

Good pay for the cost of living in Rochester, NY. Direct managers allow reasonable flex time for family and appointments. Moving around within the company isn't that hard if you want to do it. Some direct managers are really great. Lots of good engineers and software people around.

Cons

Not as much vacation as many would like. Benefits have gotten worse every year for the past 5 years. Company doesn't utilize the engineering resources it has. Mid level management isn't willing to take risks. Upper management doesn't set good direction and isn't willing to call out poor middle managers. Company is happy selling products designed and built by 3rd parties and to give away intellectual property in order to save money in the short term. 6 large layoffs in the past 5 years.
