I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at FedEx (Phoenix, AZ) in Mar 2016
Interview
Group walk-through of the sort facility with a general explanation of the job being applied for. The starting positions generally have a high turnover rate, mostly from people moving up to higher positions within the company. An offer letter is presented after the walk-through and if you believe the job will be a good fit you sign it. A background check and drug screening is completed, so you may wait a few weeks before your official start date.
I applied through college or university. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at FedEx (Keasbey, NJ) in Mar 2013
Interview
If there was a process i didn't see one. The 1st round of interviews was a group tour of the facility. The second round consisted of a "interview" in which i was asked 5-6 questions, which took about 5 minutes, and was told to fill out information online for a background check. I started working there several days later. They have a high turn around so i understand why its this short for package handlers, but as long as you are competent than you will get the job.

It was pretty simple, you go in you talk to the interviewer, they asked you have you done this type of work just say yes to all the questions and your practically in. then attend orientation, and you start working asap. Once you start you are required to wear boots, without the boots you cant go inside the facility.
