I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Google (Tokio)
Interview
Got approached by a recruiter from linkedIn, and thought why not? During the phone interview, there were a lot of Linux and networking related questions, which I don't know much about. I believe that I got two questions right, but I was not able to pass the phone interview.
The recruiter approached me and asked if I had interest. The first interview step was to go over simple multiple choice questions. The next one was a 1-2 hours written test. I was then interviewed via a phone screen that took an hour. All interview results were very good. The recruiters then scheduled the on-site. Here starts the ridiculous process:
- The recruiter told me the onsite will happen in the company premises.
- Shortly after that, I got an email about video conference-based interview. I asked why via email and got no response.
- I was asked about the salary expectation at this stage. I told then my current compensation. They said they cannot afford! I said I cannot continue for that position.
- I then sent an email asking if there is any other position suited to my career level and interests. No response!
Hey, I don't know if any person in charge at Google is reading this but Google looks like not old Google but something else. I am done with respecting it and do not want to be part of it anymore. You should treat people well and not waste their time and interest.

Interview
I was contacted by the recruiter, who invited me to apply. The first step was a small questionnaire (they call it self-assessment) ~15 easy questions about data structures and basic Unix.
This was followed by a coding challenge which you do on your own time (they recommend you to finish it within 48 hrs if possible). Challenge was a few troubleshooting questions with provided documentation as well as a code interpretation challenge.
Finally, was interviewed by Google Hangout. I personally didn't like the style of having to code on a blank notepad without any prior planning (diagram/pseudocode) but it is what it is. Found myself backtracking a lot but thinking aloud to let the interviewer what is going on is very appreciated.
Got a rejection call a couple of days after. Couldn't feel bad though, the recruiter was amazing and very supportive the entire time.
