Hiring is pretty simple. You must take an ASVAB test to see where you stand. Depending on what you scored on your ASVAB and what is available at the moment will dictate the job you get. After selecting your job you will have a short interview "why do you want to join the army" once this is done, you will just wait for Basic Training.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at US Army
Interview
Join the Army through a Recruiter at your local recruiting station. Don't lie about your passed history, they will find out. The Army is more than a job, it is a full time commitment.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at US Army (Watertown, NY) in Mar 2010
Interview
Paperwork and testing. There was no interview, just walked into the office. Was asked to fill out paperwork, they ran a background check, set-up testing required. Once results were returned, you are giving a physical and then offered certain jobs that are needing to be filled. You can accept the job and basic training and advance training is set up for a future date. If you do not accept the jobs offer you can wait a few weeks and try again. You keep in touch until your date arrives and then you are shipped off to training.
