Worked at AIG for 4 years and it felt like 10 years.

Pros

AIG giant insurance company, they provide training to employees and the benefits are decent.

Cons

You're doing the job of 3 people at the same time - fast paced, high stress. The yearly reviews are based on a 1 through 5 scale (1 being the best, ready for promotion / 5 you are out the door) - you can be doing a great job but if your manager doesn't speak up for you, at best you will receive a rating of a 3 or 4 and with that said you might get a bonus; there are no salary increases unless you get a 1.

Pros

Pay and benefits; otherwise, none.

Cons

Toxic work environment. Constant change and restructuring, bureaucracy, non-transparent, right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, broken performance management process, ineffective & inefficient processes and systems. Frequent company-wide lay-offs, outsourcing with poor results.

Pros

This company is so huge that it was bailed out by the govt. Most likely will be around forever based on history and complexity of its structure/systems. To unwind the company would be impossible not being able to understand the trickle down effect.

Cons

People in high level are put there through who they know and not what they know. The CFO of my business group stated in a town hall prior to the financial crisis of 2008 that the company 'had limited exposure to the real estate market'. REALLY?!! CLUELESS! That CFO is still with company and somehow highly regarded. Again its who you know not what you know! Face time face time face time. No work home life balance. Divorce is rampant among employees since they are required to work 24/7/365. A truly toxic environment! If you love your family don't work here. If you want to be away from your family this is the place for you.
