Pros

Benefits, all brochures and client handouts are given to you free of charge, E&O is paid , freedom of schedule and don't have to report to an office every day.

Cons

You are told that your income is "limitless" as it is a commission based business but you give 2/3 of the commissions to the company and they have set the bar so high you are unlikely to ever make more. Likely salary in year one , less than 35K. You are also told you will be given a "book of business" but it's an old list of generally dissatisfied clients who have had 6 or 7 other advisors before you and has been churned and sold any possible product. There is nothing left to do with them but fill out administrative forms and you are paid ZERO on that. You run around and drive to all the schools ( no gas expense) and are expected to sit in teachers lounges and jump on them when they come by to sell them an annuity. Most of the teachers are low salary and most already have accounts. You are expected to convince them to transfer over those other accounts when they've had a relationship with another advisor at another company for 15 years. Good Luck !

Pros

Not much good can be said about the company, if you are in a group where your opinions are valued, you might get some experience out of it. Early car service at 8pm.

Cons

Sweatshop environment, work hours in the finance community is usually till midnight on quarter ends and 8 or 9 normally and weekend work including major holidays (so goodbye july 4th bbq). Extremely old fashion culture where usage of new technology was faced with much resistant (think printing calculator instead of MS Excel). This caused very slow production cycles and bottlenecks for everyone and those who were efficient now seemed they don't have enough work. Male dominated senior management where women managers seem to have to stay extra late and work extra hard to just get invited to the party, very unprofessional behavior can be seen coming from senior male management. Horrible review system, one is rated against others in the same pay grade but not necessary the same function. Managers who have never spoken or worked with you gets to vote if you are an above average performer, so if your manager is outspoken and willing to fight for you against other managers, you get a better rating and thus a merit award. However, will s/he willing to hurt a relationship with another manager?

Pros

Was an exciting place to grow and be innovative. if you had spunk, the world was your oyster

Cons

Reporting to a matrix is ridiculous. No one can make a decision and when you do you are told you overstepped your boundaries, RPR process is brutal. Multi facited goals are given and you must accomplish all - HOWEVER, the ONLY goal that matters is the moving financial goal. They have you running around checking boxes when in the end, none of it matters. They know in August ( after only 2 Qs of trying to achieve your goals ) who they are ranking high or low. You are either a "chosen one" or not. If they give you a 4 you are blackballed in the company- don't expect any development even if they tell you, "you" are not a 4. 1&2s receive stay interviews & development oportunities HOWEVER, they do not have to be dynamic individuals, just those luckily enough to be handed an easy portfolio to manage. Forced rankings and now internal consulting "wow" are shutting down profit centers. The only jobs available are on the science team - all ivy league with 6 figure salaries- NO ONE in science has yet produced any ground breaking profit for the company.
