Quite possibly the closest thing to a sweat shop in the modern 21st Century-a horrible place to work.
Pros
They have excellent benefits! I have worked for them both in a union compacity and as a sales manager. And in both cases the benefits, from the health benefits to the free phone service and internet services (when available) was top notch.
Cons
The downsides are the management teams. When I worked in the call center as a union employee, I worked with some of the most unethical managers in the telecom industry. I was OFTEN pressed to lie to customer to make a sale. The micromanagement in the call center is absolutely unbelievable. DSL is their prime product, and in the consumer market unit if you didn't sell multiple dsls everyday (nevermind the fact that the customer may be disconnected due to non payment, have no computers, have no use for the internet) you were terrorized within an inch of your life to find a reason for the customer to take it. Several of my co-workers were out due to "stress leave". It was unbelievably inhumane. I thought it would be easier when I came back and rejoined the company as a manager, but sadly the small business unit are also ran by unethical managers with little qualifications except for that they were a top sales leader in their group. They are given absolutely no management training, and it shows in the way that they interact with their employees and each others. One of my managers actually stopped me on my way out of the office on election day and ordered me to vote a certain way.
