Pros

Good scientific program, striving to keep up with cutting edge research. Multi-disciplinary atmosphere with many guest speakers coming to share their knowledge. Sizable budgets for travelling to conferences and for collaborations with other research institutes.

Cons

Must comply with many of Abengoa's rules, which are very strict, and illogical. Unofficial 50-hour work week. Very demanding and not very gratifying. More than 50% of the PhD students have left due to blatant lies during the interview as to their pay and hours. General atmosphere of discontent with the upper management and human resources. Slated to be a research center, but more of a consulting company in many respects.

Pros

US Solar team was made up of great people who had a passion for what they were doing and were great engineers. We worked on great technologies that we really thought would change the world.

Cons

Upper management is clueless. Solar R&D has no target, biz dev pitches projects that make no long term sense, construction is mismanaged. All the good people are hurrying out the door.
