Company Culture takes a downslide

Pros

Company is great with being a contributor to the communities we live in. They have great company benefits and company events.

Cons

Base pay for IT personnel is below market. Difficult to maintain work/life balance. Didn't feel valued as there's no consistency across the company in how people are rewarded. Your work experience depends on what organization you work in because some organizations have great leaders and others don't. Didn't feel like the "bad" leaders were held accountable for anything. No formal way to provide upward feedback.

Pros

Work Life Balance Innovative Friendly culture Best place in Consumer Banking

Cons

TOO MUCH internal politics. At a point when you want to get to a Director or VP level, your skills at playing politics become VERY important. This can get very annoying. Amex has a young work force, at least in New York, so if you are not a Director by the time you are about 33 or so, you start feeling a little out of place. The salaries at Amex are usually lower than at other Consumer Banking companies, they compensate for this with their better and more innovative culture. I used to work at Citi and the culture at Amex was a lot better, but they pay less (usually).
