Pros

I get paid to work there. Good projects with existing large clients. Large market diversity.

Cons

Management is really poor and uninspiring and directionless from the top down. Offices and business units work in isolation with very little coordination. Wants to be a tier one consultant but has no idea how to get there. The reluctance to adapt and innovate in a changing market and win new clients is catching up as coal terminal work is coming to an end. No clear position descriptions of staff in key positions. Complete lack of respect or understanding of staff in non engineering roles with little to no career opportunities. Performance and development system is completely ineffectual and does nothing for staff development or engagement. Current offices are a joke paying huge long term rents on flash new green star buildings with large comunual areas but personal workspaces are poor.

Pros

Large jobs. A lot of knowledge to draw on if you can get people to share it, problem is people tend to hold knowledge tight as they think it will make them more valuable.

Cons

When you went to work you just didn't know that your job was safe. There felt like there was little job security as you're always reminded that you're a replaceable part of a machine. It got to the point where I hated going to work every day because there was this looming threat of redundancy or that they'd try get rid of you some other way. Most people that worked in my team were actively looking for work. Of the first part of the year, 12 people left on their own accord, two of them even left without a job to go to as they were that desperate to get out. Unfortunately they weren't honest on their exit interviews (they told me "what's the point") so this probably doesn't help Aurecon's cause to figure out the problem. I didn't even get an exit interview when I left even after following up with managers and HR, which is why I decided to put this review up. After working there for almost 8 years it was a bit of a kick in the teeth. There are a lot of egos to stroke and often those egos get in the way of getting the job done right. Between the egos are some great, down to earth, knowledgeable people but they're often beaten down by those with louder voices. I have to agree with the previous review that says that the culture is toxic. There is generally little support for staff at the lower end and I also personally experienced the threats of "we can send your job overseas" that the previous reviewer wrote as well. I also agree with the previous reviewer that, at least in the team I was in that I witnessed bullying of staff by managers and nothing seemed to be done about it. There are a lot of people put into technical or management positions that aren't suited to the role as they simply don't have the ability or knowledge, it's a bit of a boys club and a who you know or how long you have been there situation.

Pros

Offers good flexibility work/life balance - well at least my group does. Education scheme is great. Local office management and associates are pretty easy going on a personal level. New office, new computers and improving IT support.

Cons

Very poor business admin systems - find yourself repeating the same info on numerous forms. The admin support is very poor/non existing and they think they are running the company. They claim to be focused on quality; however that's all talk. What their really concerned with is whatever BST spits out. People receiving promotion are the real poor performers - talking about building a bridge is not building a bridge.
