      Pros

      The only pro about working for Barclays is that my colleagues are a great group of people. When I say colleagues, I specifically mean my peers.

      Cons

      Lack of room for growth. Consistently poor raises and increasingly bad bonus numbers. Red tape all over the place. Incredibly bureaucratic. Compliance driven. Big titles at the top still paying themselves handsomely while they explain poor compensation to employees by complaining about how bad the year was. YEAR AFTER YEAR. There is a traffic jam at the exit doors, people running for the hills left and right. They preach values but it's all a facade.

      Pros

      Growth company with entrepreneurial spirit. Strong management team and flat organization. Great people to work with. The team is mostly centered in Wilmington, DE so there is a strong face-to-face meeting culture. It is nice to have the backing of a large bank, but have the feel of a small organization.

      Cons

      As a growth company, there are more goals than people to achieve them. Barclaycard has been slow to hire to ramp up for growth. It is currently outside the top 5 issuers within the US, so budgets are smaller than those of the larger organization.

      Challenging place to feel comfortable

      Pros

      A cooperative culture. Flexible and family friendly. Big push towards Agile and Lean Working practices. Broad range of flexible benefits.

      Cons

      Some working environments (office spaces) are not very comfortable. This isn't a place to work if you are looking for job security. Strategy changes frequently which can lead to anyone being surplus to requirements. Redundancy benefits are not what they used to be and notice is not paid in lieu so you won't get paid if you move straight into another role.
