Pros

Fun culture Friendly and helpful co-workers Work with recent technologies Great work life balance with FTO, and remote options

Cons

Pay is lower than other financial companies (BoA, GS, Morgan Stanley, JP, etc), and significantly lower than tech companies. BlackRock likes to think they are still competitive in this regards, but the general sentiment among the software engineers is that they are all planning to find other opportunities, especially when Amazon ramps up recruitment. A lot of hurdles and bureaucracy from senior management

Pros

The name really adds more weight to your resume

Cons

Leadership, a lot of miss information and no support. When I left, about 80% of the team also left around the same month. From what I hear the entire team was shut down in the SF office due to high turnover. Also, all the work that was reallocated to other offices caused folks to leave there as well.

Pros

Good location in Edinburgh I suppose.

Cons

Intensely cliquey, if you are not friends with the right people then your life will be difficult. Expected to drop personal life at a moments notice at weekends etc for work. Constant crisis culture. IT systems constantly blowing up and immense pressure to fix quickly. Poor managers who are just in the right place right time to be promoted (got in early). Mistakes are not ok and you will be hammered and reminded of them constantly. Workaholic culture, expected to give your life to the company and condemned when you do not. Constant appraisals (weekly) designed to weed information out of you and critique every aspect of your performance. Aladdin architecture is awful and pcs are slow, iwork culture is awful. Flexible time off is a complete con and designed to make you take less holidays and not pay holidays when you leave!
