Pros

Generally speaking, very capable coworkers and willingness to engage; great opportunities for junior staff to gain exposure and boost visibility; work-life balance and ability to work remotely are both surprisingly available, given the industry reputation

Cons

Best talent often leaves early because of pigeon-holing; company prides itself on being a meritocracy but too often corporate politics takes precedence over actual talent; poor direct managers can shorthand junior staff through no fault of their own; too many director- and managing director-level people are preoccupied with optics over substance

Pros

Breadth of platform reduces career volatility. Solid compensation and benefits. BlackRock's size provides great access for resources.

Cons

Very little internal promotion. Director and MD positions have been filled primarily by external hires, which has been expensive and results questionable. Zero culture.
