      How do you suck all the fun out of a guitar company?

      Pros

      Many good, talented, hard-working employees. Decent insurance available (but it's far from free). Generous vacation and holiday package. And there are still guitars, of course.

      Cons

      Layoffs five years in a row. Management changes direction seemingly every time the wind blows. Upper management keeps promoting itself, while employee wages fall farther and farther behind (1% raises, anyone?). Generous bonuses for management; nothing for the people actually accomplishing all of the day-to-day tasks. Employees can't count on even modest 401(k) matching. Not ALL of the good people have left. . . yet.

      Pros

      There are still some truly talented and fantastic employees here but they're leaving in droves.

      Cons

      No direction from senior leaders, very little respect for employees, the HR dept. is run by self-centered, back-stabbing people who don't care a bit about employees, only about advancing their own careers. Many employees have either had or are on the verge of having nervous breakdowns and there is no support for them.

      Pros

      Great to be around great instruments and friendly colleagues.

      Cons

      The company culture was good until the CEO was replaced. Larry Thomas changed all this. He has made one bad decision after another and replaced good people with his cronies from Guitar Center. They are disliked by the employees, their suppliers and their customers. The sooner they are gone, the sooner Fender can try to recover if it can.
