Pros

An environment that was encouraging of exploration of design and representation methods. People were friendly and easy to talk to. A lot of overlapping interests to drive discussions pertaining project aspects.

Cons

The encouraging environment ended there (at encouragement) - Otherwise, it was difficult to have any other type of support. There was no training at all in terms of logging hours billed to work, and employees regularly billed to projects they were not working on in order to appear productive.

Pros

- the people - studio culture - easy collaboration with project managers - the office location - the vendor parties, studio parties + events happening throughout the day

Cons

- very strict about hitting your 40 billable hours per week - Gensler SF doesn't invest in education resources for employees - constantly scheduling meetings + efforts where employees are asked to "donate" time - no paid sick leave (it's wrapped into PTO, and then all employees come in sick and get everyone else sick, so they can save PTO for vacation) - lots of expected pro bono work + no payment (when your volunteering makes a splash - Gensler will claim credit with no fiscal support) - workplace looks like it's stuck in the 90s

Pros

It's big, has good name recognition and brand

Cons

Promotion process is very political and arbitrary. Too much compensation is determined by bonuses and not base salary. Overtime is typically mandatory and not compensated, or recognized. We help our clients design great places to work, but often times our own offices fall far short of what we promote as good workplaces to our clients.
