Pros

Excellent colleagues. Open office floor plan in heart of Chinatown (DC). Amazing work environment. Openness to get involved in all aspects of the organization. Righteous holiday parties.

Cons

Risk of layoff. Unpredictable/unstable fundraising figures. Relatively low pay. In some positions hard to advance or make a full career out of it.

Pros

Greenpeace is a values-driven organization, and mainly everyone in the canvassing office is there because they love environmental and social justice values

Cons

Canvassing is a hard job, made tougher by the fact that Greenpeace makes people sign up for monthly donations (with a credit card), and the minimum signup amount is $15, which bars access to a lot of people who want to get involved (and makes it really hard for a canvasser who hasn't had experience rubbing shoulders with wealthy people to meet their quotas)

Lots of talk, little campaigning

Pros

Smart, committed activist who think daily about how we can live in a better world but hampered by the inertia of 45 year old organization and constant restructuring.

Cons

This is not a campaigning organization - it's a well-intentioned Google Docs factory. 80% of time is to discuss what they're going to do instead of doing. Countless working groups are formed each year to devise theoretical, existential positions on environmental issues without any concrete action. More time spent talking internally than to the public. Democracy ethos gives way to a severe lack of executive leadership.
