Management often times would rather allow a situation to escalate and deal with the fallout than get involved in the beginning and potentially prevent uncomfortable situations to occur. "Manager" apparently is an administrative position that requires 0 human skills and has no authority other than giving employees work to do...even if it doesn't make any sense! Why not hire more workers instead of making the existing workforce pickup the load left by the many shutdowns, layoffs and unfilled/closed personnel requisitions. Work/Life balance is usually good except when you're on a project.
