Pros

Fitness center on site. Close to Metra.

Cons

Recent layoffs and 401k cuts have killed morale. Management has stated that layoffs will be ongoing as the business needs change. Senior management cares more about the bottom line then the well being of their employees. Culture has become very cold and political. If you suck up to management you can have a very successful career at HERE.

Pros

Gym, sunna, yoga, kick boxing ... you name it Unlimited coffee BVG Firmenticket

Cons

The major project was out sourced due to limited budget, meanwhile there is an expensive and nice-looking office under construction. The people come up with the shared desk design is not a programmer. As a professional software engineer, my productivity is highly influenced by who is around me and where I sit. I want to surround by the fixed team mates. And having a table belongs to you in fact makes you feel cozy and having a strong sense of belongingness, you can put a little bit something in the desk, like a picture of your kid. And now what, I have to clean the table before I went home and lock them in a Chicken-Housed-Sized locker each day, and second day I'll be sitting somewhere else with a different guy in front of me. Some of the senior managers at HERE are living in a different world. They care about if they can get the most founded project and if they can get the resources. They are actively striving for that but have no idea how to plan the project and use the best of their resources to work with. Seems to me that the only thing they care about is how much money and power they can get. Charles Patoshik can do a better management job than those people The HR in Berlin site is unbelievably horrible. When partner moves with you from an alien country and you want to consult some issues regarding the visa of your partner. HR will tell you: "We don't care about your family". Ok then we don't care about HERE anymore, how's that sound. How would you find yourself to get payed in an IT company if there are less and less IT personals want to work there in the future?

Dysfunctional org. Epitome of inefficiency.

Pros

Deep pockets of former owner (Nokia) plus current owners (BMW/Audi/Daimler) lets you get away with wasting a lot of time, effort, and resources. It takes so long to get anything done (on order of months to quarters) that there's no sense of urgency. No reason to work hard and no consequences to delivering late.

Cons

Many competing groups fighting to justify existence. A lot of "we're the most important group because..." Lack of vision. Lots of efforts still alive due to momentum versus opportunity. Confusing/overlapping roles (Business planner vs Product Owner vs Product Manager vs Program Manager? Leads vs functional managers) Organized such that a single group isn't able to deliver anything to a customer, leading to lots of completed deliverables sitting on the shelf for months, to an end customer in years. Lots of mega-processes/tools, inefficiencies that scaled. Process for the sake of process that don't really make things easier.
