Pros

The work is interesting and meaningful and you are contributing to changing the world for the better. People are passionate about what they do.

Cons

There are no clear cons apart from compensation. The job is very rewarding but it would be good to have that reflected in the financial rewards as well.

Interesting work but terrible mid-level management

Pros

Smart colleagues, interesting work, and good degree of flexibility to shape your own work.

Cons

Mid-level management is terrible: poor understanding of how to manage people and projects, still poor feedback practices, and no transparency. In addition, there are unclear and difficult reporting relationships with researchers and low salaries.
