Pros

It had some of the best coworkers I've ever had and the employees are smart and very dedicated to what they do. Since the IRC is well known and respected around the world, it looks good having it on your resume and can open doors to other places. Working directly with the clients has created some memories that I'll never forget.

Cons

There is no training. New hires are thrown in. Usually the office is already overworked and understaffed and therefore new hires don't have the opportunity to get good training. There's no life work balance and you will need to work odd hours but overtime is rarely approved. There's always a look out for more grants and services to gain money but it can cause mission drift and require more services without more staff. Management was also untrained or didn't know how to fix problems. This caused low morale and high turnover which created a bad since there was no new hire training.

Pros

Fantastic people, incredible amount of responsibility for interns, lots of trust and honesty - incredible skills development and firsthand knowledge of the resettlement process. Great place to learn how to prioritize and plan. Many interns get hired.

Cons

Turnover is huge, morale low, pay apparently quite low (interns are unpaid), and they have no money to replace employees who leave. Standard ngo problems, can't pay for what they're trying to do. Also experience depends on your department and direct supervisors, bad stories from other interns.
