Pros

-- Great mission -- Money raised really goes to the people being served -- Very talented, dedicated staff members -- Staff is very aware of and dedicated to the mission -- Good benefits -- Generous sick time

Cons

-- Very top heavy organization with many directors, associate directors, deputy directors, etc. -- Large salary gap between the higher ups and those lower down with little opportunity for middle ground -- Very bureaucratic with many levels of to go through before things get done -- Heavy reliance on consultants -- Power struggles at the top -- Little connection of HQ staff to the field.

Good local offices. HQ is horrible.

Pros

Most local office staff are dedicated to the work and care about clients. Good PTO and insurance. Given limited resources, services tend to be good to clients to the best of staff ability.

Cons

The CEO makes over $1,000,000 per year. Look up the average nonprofit CEO salary in NYC for reference on how appalling that is. The jump between salaries in field offices and HQ is criminal. The money stays at the top, funding TONS of HQ staff who do… what exactly? Select HQ staff advocate for local offices and see the lack of support we receive. Most HQ staff are clearly there for the paycheck. When US offices started to unionize last year, massive pushback came from HQ. They don’t care about field staff or the reality on the ground, unfortunately. Also, ECU (ethics and compliance unit) complaints seem to go absolutely nowhere. Some incredibly unethical things happen in offices that are reported and never addressed.

Pros

Incredibly dedicated colleagues with passion to support refugees

Cons

Numerous. Management is so out of touch of what the daily needs of clients are and provide no support. Under-resourced staff are charged with finding solutions to systems or issues they are vastly underpaid to solve. The pay is horrible, there is no safe place to raise concerns and management retaliate against anyone who raises concerns. Extremely toxic work environment and constant harm is being done to clients because of how poorly run the organization is. If I could give zero stars I would.
