      Pros

      Independence in work. Lots of opportunities for advancement. Able to see various location throughout North America. Never the same job throughout the years. Opportunities are at various locations and ever changing as we get different work in various locations. With a lack of labour in the construction markets there is great opportunities for advancement.

      Cons

      Travel and locations of work. Generally required to go to remote locations for the work. Camp jobs are numerous and require a committment. Work and life balance is minimal expected to be married to the company and go where and when they require. In some ways it is similar to being in the army.

      Pros

      They offer an incredible training package that is a leader amongst the industry. Other companies recognize your work experience at Kiewit, and will attempt to headhunt you once you have completed your ~4 years of training. Great company to work at when you are young and starting.

      Cons

      Such a large company that you can fall between the cracks. You also can be sent to work anywhere without much say in it. On Thursday you can be told that your plane leaves on Sunday, and that you are being relocated to go to work on a project. Tough company to work for when you are getting around 30 years old and want to settle down and have a family.

      Make $ at Kiewit, but lose your family

      Pros

      Used to be for the stock... not so much any more! Kiewit Construction, or Peter Kiewit Sons Inc, or Pacific Building District (whatever it is currently called) tends to give stock after a couple of years, just enough to get you encouraged to stick around (the "golden handcuffs"). Also the safety record at Kiewit is top notch. The crews that put work in place are great, planning the work and execution are unbeatable. It is just a matter of turning the good things up and trying to take advantage of the good people that are still there before they get fed up and leave!

      Cons

      You wife will get fed up with the schedule (long hours, travel, etc.) and cheat on you, taking half of your stock that you had been working so hard for in the first place! There are an incredible number of folks that have been divorced in the years I worked with Kiewit. They spend too much time away from family/ friends and the wives eventually get tired of it. Upper management is a mess. They have folks in senior management positions that are less than worthless. Also Kiewit tends to beat-up its subcontractors to try to squeeze every $ out of their projects.
