Pros

Good place to start your career to get the name on your resume. Great development environment. work from home.

Cons

Salary increases are difficult to get. Don't even at the very least match inflation. Bonuses are difficult to get, depends on how good you can network. If you don't have a good brown nose your salary will stay the same year over year and suffer. heavy workload with no overtime pay. Promotions are even more difficult doesn't depend on your experience but 'who' you know and who knows you. Too much red tape, simple tasks take very long to do. Lots of finger pointing. Difficult to bring in new technologies. Full of legacy stuff. Yearly layoffs.

Pros

Ability to gain FINRA licenses (7, 66, 3, 9, 10, 4, 24 and 53). Good work life balance. 20 vacation days. 7 sick days. Non-micromanagement environment.

Cons

0 bonuses. 0 recognition. Low moral amongst department. New hires are brought in at higher salaries for the same job function. Mid Level management not powered to discipline under performing employees. Mid Level management unable to reward over performing employees. Lack of communication from management in regards to policy or procedure updates. Promotions that come with no pay increases. Departments don't respect each other. If you apply internally for another department, you might as well be applying at a different firm. Management disconnected from employees and no career development opportunities.

Pros

Great Brand Good Systems Great Location Nice Offices Good access to other departments Global foot-print

Cons

Little to no support for lateral/ inter departmental movements Poor compensation relative to industry More work load, smaller bonus Have not had a pay rise in 3 years (nor has anyone in my position) Glass ceiling - you cant move up... Political nightmare No Recognition - partly due to the fact your manager has no idea what you are doing Quicker to suggest exploring job opportunities externally than to assist internally (not isolated incident) No clear requirements to progress - consistently changing progression requirements Losing clients due to poor credit rating No advertising is Australia - most people don't know our division exists! Icing on the cake - in performance reviews, they cannot give all high performers 'exceeds expectations' because they have to follow a bell curve. Low pay relative to industry and no recognition.
