The performance appraisals can get very subjective and if you do not have a good relationship with your manager you will never progress in your career, no matter your good work. Lots of politicking in the staff and managerial positions, being this the only way for career Advancement. Also, the work environment at this level can get pretty agresive. You can get as many as 6 years without a single salary raise.
