Pros

The ability to gain exposure to a variety of clients, resulting in experience in many levels of complexity. The downsides of RSM results in an appreciation for management that values staff and their clients. After a couple of years of gaining all the experience one can digest, working incredibly long hours, having no life outside of the office, and being devalued and demoralized, one can join a different firm which will undoubtedly provide them with better compensation, improved environment, and an appreciation for a management who values their contributions and efforts.

Cons

Senior management that makes derrogatory and demoralizing comments about staff to other staff members. Employee confidential information being released in common areas inappropriately without any purpose other than to offend and create dissention. Staff consumption of alcoholic beverages during busy season from 5 pm through 3-4 more hours of tax preparation, including pop machines that dispense beer. High turn over rate resulting in remaining staff over worked and producing less than a quality product.

Pros

The amount of professional growth that someone can experience in this public accounting firm is endless. From the assurance services side as a Senior Assoicate level, I have a great opportunities to work very closely with my clients from planning through wrap-up as well as being the engagement team leader for staff members. As such, this provides me with opportunities to improve upon my leadership skills, continue to develop my technical expertise, while establishing great professional working relationships with my team members and clients.

Cons

Like most, if not all, public accounting settings, the balance of maintaining a healthy work/life balance can be challenging at times - especially for those who finds themselves to be an overachiever.
