Pros

If you are a person dedicated to your profession and have a sincere desire to do well RSM McGladrey is a good place to work. Hard work and dedication is rewarded. The opportunity seems endless... it is encouraging to see partners in their 30's.

Cons

The downside is the required hours. My guess is that I work somewhere between 2300 and 2500 hours per year, the majority of the overtime during the winter months. Unfortunately this profession is very seasonal - there really is no way around it.

Pros

The company sells its work life balance and does do a better job than big four firms. Half-day Fridays during the summer are good example of the work life balance initiatives the company has implemented. McGladrey does have some other work life balance programs that seem to be more exclusive to managers and above as staff need to be at the client to do their job.

Cons

For being the 5th largest firm in nation, experience staff are not compensation according to their peers at competitor firms. While start paying for a college graduate is only a few thousand dollars behind big four firms, annual raises are 3%-5% lower than the big four. These 3%-5% decrease in raises add up and eventually seniors are lagging in compensation.
