Pros

Challenge for growing the marketshare. Environment is evolving fast and the need for continuous learing is omnipresent. The atmosphere wiht the collegues is great and the senior management is open-minded. I would recomment Scotiabank as a great place to start, but after a couple of years it probably is better to switch to a competitor.

Cons

Lending policies don't allow us to be competitive in every situation. Salary is below average even for top performers, it is rather based on years of service. However, most competitors have adapted ans are offering better remuneration packages to their sales staff.

Pros

It looks good on the resume if you're just starting out - cash handling and customer service experience, and future employers have evidence that you're trustworthy. I liked it when I worked at small branches where the customers were nice and I could get to know them a little bit. I also learned some practical information about borrowing, credit, and investing that I didn't know before.

Cons

Bank hours are short, so it's not really possible to get a lot of hours in. A lot of employees had second jobs. The pay isn't good. When I worked at a busier downtown branch, I felt some of the customers were quite rude and condescending.

Pros

Gets your foot in the door. Ok pay and benefits. Paid vacation.

Cons

Incompetent people and management. They play favourites and treat competent workers like crap! Little room for promotion, unless you are prepared to grovel and bow to the master/mistress. They knock you down if you show progess. There are many people there with nasty attitudes there. If you defend yourself, you are blamed. Mid-Management lies about you any and every chance they get, if they are threatened by your progress. You are confronted and accused of things you did not do, HR does ask questions, they only listen to the manager-then act as judge, jury and executioner. People are rewarded for knocking down other people, teamwork is lipservice, just another useless piece of corporate jargon.
