Pros

Worst job of my whole career. From hiring to my last day, it began badly and never improved. The position was listed as a Vancouver job, but it was actually based out of Toronto. I asked twice what the work hours would be and they lied about the expected work hours. No one in leadership ever acknowledged the misrepresentation of the work hours. It's illegal to misrepresent the terms of an employment. As soon as I started, a long-term employee started to tell me about how un-trustworthy the bank is. It's the most disorganized place I've ever seen. The org structure also makes no sense. There are companies doing things well and I don't understand why Scotiabank doesn't start looking to them for guidance. The culture is full of dishonesty. I've never been in company that's unethical to such a degree. Leadership takes almost no accountability. They blame lower echelon employees instead. I've also never seen such a tight-pursed company before. They issue junk and refuse to issue necessary equipment for employees to do a good job. What makes no sense is that they spend more money on salaries having meetings to justify not supplying hardware than it would cost to just pay for the hardware in the first place. I know they're a bank, which is all about money, but they take it to an extreme with capitalization exercises. You end up spending more time documenting your work than actually completing your work. The most recent Pulse survey revealed that nearly half of the employees don't trust leadership and there's a good reason for it. Stay away.

Pros

Big company not going bankrupt anytime soon. Literally nothing other than this if you work in branch world.

Cons

- you stop getting paid at 5pm but you can’t actually leave at 5pm. - company does not make you feel important, everything is based on you doing maximum amount of sales but systems, other departments, management, will all work against you and tie down your efficiency. - huge expectation for you to waste time selling Insurance and using sales tools that you don’t need to hit sales targets. But company will force you to waste these times on tools because they are petrified of lawsuits. - heavy focus on women in leadership and not qualified candidates in leadership so most of branch management absolutely horrendous/can’t make a decision because lack of brain power. - very very cheap in terms of what they buy for employees, how they celebrate employees, branch doesn’t buy food or keep the fridge stocked, nada.

Pros

The people's intentions is definitely a pro, but rarely gets realized. Manager qualities varies but I've been lucky to have been paired with good managers. Overtime pay (level specific). Technology wise it they tend to purchase vendor applications which gives great time to market but often lacks customization.

Cons

Management means well but rarely would go out of their way to help you achieve your goals which shows you that they do not value talent retention. The organization structure has been flattened significantly which reduces opportunities to progress your careers. Recently took away overtime pay which was one of the main reason they were competing in salaries with other banks. Now that that's gone, they are definitely the lowest paying bank out of the top 5 in Canada. Business processes are a nightmare and often confusing.
