Pros

Our VP's fake smiles and eye rolls. Stay classy. Hours ESOP

Cons

Managers of all levels lack leadership skills. (Why were you hired then if it's based on competencies? Right because some people have to apply for jobs while others are just given to them. Overworked and underpaid employees. High turnover. Team meetings are stressful because of fear of job cuts. (They're coming, again). People who do the least work are treated the best.

Pros

Bankers hours 8-5 (however this doesn't exist anymore banks are open until 8 some nights and saturdays now)

Cons

Hours of banking are constantly changing to remain competitive. Minimal growth opportunities and if an opportunity comes up, management will prevent you from applying in order to keep you in the same position. You are openly reprimanded if your perform poorly, and will not be recognized if you do well.

Pros

Great Physical space. If you are self motivated you can use your time there to grow . Theres zero pressure to actually get anything done.

Cons

The job is simply not what was advertised. The Digital Factory (DF) was sold to me as an innovation hub where a honed agile process rapidly generated world class solutions which were iterated on. The reality is that the agile process is pure theatre, most of the scrum masters are very weak and lots of the employees are not even familiar with basic agile practises. The DF is beholden to the larger bank so the release cycle is too long to do any real iterative development anyway. Another result of this relationship between DF and the bank is that basically nothing gets released, you are essentially building prototypes to the whims of whichever scotia exec is sponsoring your team at that moment (expect the sponsor, and therefore your requirements, to change pretty regularly). As nothing gets released theres no sense of satisfation in a job well done, on the plus side, there are no real deadlines, just do as much work as you want! Gets old though.
