Pros

Great benefits Some good ideas Diverse product portfolio Very fair work/life balance for the most part

Cons

Some clearly misguided market attempts Some managers clearly rose through the ranks through brown-nosing and not competence Training can be harder to come by than in similar companies Can be a bit stodgy when it comes to seizing new markets and innovation

Pros

- Friendly, helpful managers, staff, and personnel. I felt like I was at home on my first day! - Well organized, helpful orientation and new-hire process for new college hires - Very helpful software systems to get up to date in a hurry - Very "laid-back" atmosphere; can get on schedule on my own terms - Casual dress!!

Cons

- Was difficult in my particular job sometimes to get up-to-date on the software and commands associated with the job because I was the only one to start this month and kind of fell between the cracks as far as orientation for new engineers goes. But they still made the best of it!

Pros

The company is good about work/life balance. Everyone seems to be treated fairly. While people make the usual complaints about management, I have found it to be a little better than other places I've worked.

Cons

Managers will tell you they "pay for performance," but in reality the same top dogs always get the good raises. TI uses an odd performance evaluation formula. Employees are ranked against each other. The top 10% get the bulk of the raises, the bottom 10% get nothing and are put on administrative counseling, the remaining 80% splits the remaining budget. Sound reasonable until you realize, in a department full of awesome, outstanding technicians, someone is still in the bottom 10%. Positions in management require a bachelor degree. Many managers are engineers who have no people skills.

Pros

Overall this is a good company to work. Team are very talented, and you will love to be working in this environment. I personally have a good manager who shields us from all the politics which goes on at the higher management level. Work is rewarding and salaries are I believe competitive with industry. It has a good brand name and other companies respect employees working here.

Cons

1. Bad office politics at senior level. 2. Employee performance review system is not very objective and depends on votes from whole lot of other manages who do not even know your work. 3. Arbitrary decisions at senior management level impacting productivity of employees (changing design tools, shifting focus too often, too much changes in management etc) 4. Not too impressed with sudden closing of large business lines just because there is too much competition or margins are low (still profitable). I believe this may impact long term where the company may not have the required IP to get into new strategic business.

Pros

Good place to grow your technical skills, especially if you are in embedded software domain. To make the best use of the position, one might have to go and do projects over and beyond his routine defect fixes though. There is freedom and opportunities to learn. If you have not worked in any other big silicon company, there is a good chance that you'll love this company. The moment you know what is out there, things might look different.

Cons

Lot of mismanagement, micromanagement. Many managers regurgitate what they hear from engineers under them. This makes you needing to do a lot of advertising oneself to climb the ladder, also get to be some manager's personal favorite. That's what helps. Very few cares about how technically capable you are.

Pros

Been at TI for almost two years. It's a good company to learn a lot early in your career, and the work will always be interesting because TI is involved in all kinds of cutting edge areas. It's a company you can feel proud to work for, good and ethical business practices. Benefits are not sexy, but solid for a large engineering company. Flexible schedule - TI is not a sweatshop, you can put your family and personal life at a higher priority.

Cons

Raises are terrible for individual contributors, not sure about those that make it to manager level. Will not see most young engineers sticking around long term unless they love the location, the work, flexible schedule, or the opportunity to move to different roles in the company. Lots of restructuring and bowing to the demands of wallstreet, lining the pockets of investors instead of employees. TI appreciates good engineers, but you are expendable. Layoffs come in big waves every couple of years.
