Short Sighted and Stuck in the Past

Pros

TI has a few positive aspects. The work in a very stable market which is hard to come by in the semiconductor industry. Their pay is reasonable and there are several locations to work. But thats about where it stops.

Cons

TI has no idea what the words "innovate" or "collaborate" mean. Sadly the company is just to "cheap" that it costs them a fortune. In the semiconductor markets today, there is way more cost savings in being innovative (using newer technologies, chemicals, methods, equipment etc), and TI spends all its time acting like the company in Michael J Fox's movie, Secret to My Success. Cutting resources and people to run cheaper and cheaper. But like Lightning McQueen, its a short term gain long term loss and they just keep blowing tires. However thats not the worst part. The worst part is the treat people like any other resources that is expendable. The moral in this job is pretty low. So do they pay decent, sure, but money doesnt make up for a miserable work place.

Pros

Decent pay, great colleagues, nice office

Cons

Very little user centric design Repetitive and pointless, I spend more time documenting a link hover effect change in confluence than actually designing Do not use agile method properly and are slowed down because of it

Pros

Pay, Profit Sharing, Supportive of interns, Opportunities to change direction of career. There are really amazing people that will be your co workers. Can have good life work balance but that really depends on your role and team.

Cons

Layoffs are always there. It seems like with new leadership they want to layoff those that have been at the company for a long time and replace them with New College Grads. For the New College Grads, it can suck because you are inheriting something that is home grown/ custom/ created specifically for TI, so it can be difficult to learn. There have been NCGs laid off within 2 years. There is favoritism in who gets promoted to be managers. There are some great managers, but also some really bad ones. Micromanagement, bullying, harassment. Because they cut IT a lot, it can be very hard to get projects done. Projects can take years to complete.

Pros

Pays well and good people to work with.

Cons

They are stuck in legacy type culture and I am afraid they don’t realize they need to change especially around their obsession with cost. The place is barely being held together. If they lose a few key people, it’s going to be bad. They have had a virtual monopoly on some parts for years and they need to listen to suggestions from people who have been outside their system.
