Pros

Supportive coworkers, work was very rewarding at times as far as individual interactions with contacts go, great benefits, ability to work remote is a plus too.

Cons

Different job than anyone expects going in, not very many contacts are actually suicidal, lots of people masturbating or prank calling, lots of others who call multiple times every night. Suicide rates are much higher now than when the organization started and its goal is to end suicide among LGBTQ+ youth, so you have to lie to yourself if you want to believe that you're actually helping; for every one person you actually help there are 5 more that you are enabling or positively reinforcing things for them that are actually damaging to reinforce.

Pros

My team had a good culture, good benefits, I had a lot of room for growth

Cons

Org grows too fast without providing the scaffolding/staffing to support that growth.

Pros

- An incredible organization with an incredibly important mission, and they actually DELIVER on that mission Mental/emotional health are incredibly important and emphasized here - Mental health coverage is free for employees - Generous PTO, am never shamed for having to take off for not feeling well and vacations are celebrated - Some of the most caring, fun, and passionate coworkers I've ever had the pleasure of working with - A lot of employee-led workshops to learn about different departments and employee-led events to bond with others remotely - Devices are provided for you and you receive a stipend for internet usage - Everyone here is truly dedicated to our company's cause of helping young LGBTQ+ folks

Cons

- Common attitudes and issues that come with corporate do still happen here. Sometimes it feels like things that would be obvious to those lower on the corporate ladder are overlooked/weren't even considered by higher ups. -Pay increases only come with moving up the corporate ladder, and promotion are hard to come by due to limited availability of positions. - Can be frustrating to see external hires be selected/preferred for higher level positions than those who have been with the company/on the team longer in comparison. - Things are expanding/changing all the time, which is great but also feels a little TOO fast and constantly changing. Feels like we don't really have time to get adjusted to things before they change again.

The Trevor Project Response

Hey there, and thank you for the 5 stars! That's awesome! We also appreciate the thoughtful feedback you've provided... and yes, we are growing rapidly. That being said, it's important that we take the time to hear the voices of our staff to capture lessons learned and your down the road view of areas that could become problematic. I'd certainly encourage that to be raised within your direct team, but if you're comfortable, the People team is listening and would love your thoughts... you can bring them to me directly at trish.ferrett@thetrevorproject.org, or to any other member of the People Leadership team.
