Pros

Company has been around for over 100 years. Pay and benefits are average. Most of the employees are good people to work with.

Cons

Management worried too much about what the plant looks like to the eye rather than organizing things that would make it easier for workers to perform their jobs. Example: Too much time is spent looking for things that have been misplaced because no one knows where it supposed to be or where to put things when they're done with it. Some workers with less talent get preferred treatment with extra overtime hours or promotions because they are "kiss ups" or "rats" while more talented people are stuck where they are.

Pros

Timken has a total rewards philosophy embracing competitive pay and benefits. It's a conservative 110 year old company operating from the perspective of 4 core values.... 1) ethics and integrity, 2) quality, 3) innovation and 4) independence. At the same time Timken senior management is willing to take calculated risks and drive change in order to secure a bright future for the company, customers, associates and shareholders. Recently improved talent management and leadership pipeline processes are doing a better job of identifying and advancing top talent based on objective rather than subjective criteria.

Cons

Although improving, the Timken culture still is very strong, making it difficult for diverse thought processes and perspectives to gain traction. Face time tends to be valued equally and/or more than results. Flexible work schedules are permitted, but managers tend to discourage this practice. Annual forced performance evaluation ranking system based on the GE model sometimes discourages teamwork and pits associates against each other.
