Pros

For my first 10 years here, it was steady work, albeit not that well paid. We had 38.5 hour work weeks, frequent section outings, it was rewarding. Good engineering staff tries to do The Right Thing. LOTS of technical knowledge in one company

Cons

Work is not steady any more. Management thinks it can continually lay off solid people with decades' worth of relevant knowledge, then immediately replace them with wet-behind-the-ears grads and low-cost employees in foreign offices. It has fostered an environment when coworkers are stabbing each other in the back for the most profitable work so their numbers can look better and they won't be laid off in the next round. Performance reviews now include forced ranking to a bell curve, so that lots of good employees are rated low, just to provide easy justification for lay-offs later.

Pros

1. Co-workers and direct mangers are amazing. 2. Hybrid work schedule. (Said to change) 3. If apart of GBS, you get annual raises. 4. If apart of CIP, you get quarterly bonuses. 5. Depending on the department, the work is pretty easy and straightforward.

Cons

1. CEO 4/10 - Jenny definitely works as a business women thinking for the company but, in my opinion she doesn't do a very good job when it comes to prioritizing the employees she currently has. Going as far to lay off US employees to then hire through a different country. Saving money for the company by hiring elsewhere. 2. UL outsourcing positions. Thus giving up work in US. 3. Job security is not a guarantee. I personally have watched people with 20-30+ years at UL be let go. 4. Possibly getting rid of the hybrid work schedule. 5. Only cares about job levels C and up. (Opinion but true)

Thank you for taking time to give us your thoughts. We prioritize work life balance here and are glad to hear that you enjoyed your work environment. We have been navigating change to transform in today's quickly evolving market. UL Solutions was a not-for-profit until 2012. So, the business has evolved to include more rigor and structure. However, restructuring is not a decision that management takes lightly. These changes are the result of thoughtful decisions our leadership team has made to deliver on our values of growth and integrity.
