Pros

Flex Time is great and most managers let you work from home whenever you wish and engineering almost never has to be in the office during Covid. The facilities are also great.

Cons

Workload is your workload alone and although everything requires additional signatures and reviews, older coworkers are resistant to provide assistance based on workload and weird work environment that gives engineers a "sales goal" so they do not like working on things that don't add to their bottom line. A lot of middle management rises to their positions based solely off of tenure and are not value adding members of the team.

Pros

Colleagues are awesome, mostly willing to help and you feel like some people got your back technically.

Cons

Unfortunately, I felt like working at UL was like the movie Office Space. I had a manager who would have me document electronically why projects were not proceeding (usually waiting on samples or client information), but they would come to me at the beginning of each week asking for status updates. We also had department meetings that were meant to shame each other for longest projects, but I don't think they realized that we didn't care about the age of our teammates projects, we just didn't like being called out like little children.

Not an ethical company

Pros

Some hardworking individuals, people trying to do a good job

Cons

UL says they are an ethical company, and that leaders should act with integrity. The opposite is true. Leaders direct and encourage employees to ignore corporate policies and requirements, and threaten them if they speak up. Management hides problems from leadership, and communication to employees about goals and plans is nonexistent. Employee ideas are ignored and management dictates what's going to be done, based on approaches that are 20 years behind the times.
