Pros

Nice office space Large company with diverse projects, but not easy to switch sectors to grow in different areas.

Cons

I worked in the O&G sector in Calgary so can’t speak for the other 100 offices they have. Management is the like a scene out of the 80’s in the petroleum club. Full of old white men, and no women allowed. But In todays world the same but shorter. They’ve hired and promoted women, and will acknowledge that they’re diversity hires and that they meet their goals. They’ll say it to your face when they promote you and even say it in the email announcement. I’ve had VPs, Directors, managers make crude sexual comments/jokes in meetings. In the open concept office if there’s a project team of females the leaders would walk by and say “look it’s tea time again”… and these are to a group of the best performing PMs and engineers. Maternity leave would kill your career, they’ll openly acknowledge that as a project risk and pass you on great opportunities because of your likeliness of having a child. And if you’re a person of color, good luck! The only thing they’ll keep you around for is to translate the work to the folks they’ve outsourced to India, Romania and 3rd world countries.

Pros

--Useful for gaining (some) new experience.

Cons

--Terrible cross-disciplinary (and legacy company) integration. Politics and rogue players. --Acquisitional make-up results in a company with monopolistic identity. No company values. Company processes don't exist or are routinely ignored. --Unethical bidding/work practices. Work is priced and marketed exclusively by higher-grade team members (many with mediocre technical abilities). Client needs and visibility are kept hidden from those delivering the work. Hence, you will be expected to perform repeat and abortive work (assigned to you with no context) as a means of generating fee, as opposed to serving Clients well. Their quasi-monopolistic status (via acquisitions) allows them to get away with this behaviour. --Discontinuity across projects. --High turnover due to the above.
