Pros

Stable company. Many co-workers become good friends. Discount Card, not much but it's something. Get profit sharing checks quarterly if store goals met. Company stock purchase plan. Better then unemployment. Seeing people you know and friends come in shopping. Lots of customers, if you're a people person.

Cons

Work holidays, because people love to shop at the last freaking second for holidays. The new inventory control system, a.k.a backroom program, creates many headaches and often times is counterproductive. Thanks Target. Scorecards are used to rate various aspects of the store. Many things effect your scorecard. You have to do things to make the scorecard happy. Even if it makes no business sense. Management contradicts each other and changes their minds almost daily on how things should be done. Too many people running around telling you what to do. Top to Bottom goes: store manager, co-managers, zone managers, dept. managers, self-appointed managers, etc. That's just at the store level..... Work is being dumbed down. Communication is horrible. Fair share of rude customers.

Pros

with the militaristic style of management it sure toughens you mentally. only working 40 hours a week as a salaried member of management allows plenty of time to spend with the family. seems to have pretty good job security for the time being. it's a job.

Cons

lack of communication between members of management is a real downer. lack of quality training and time to be trained. lack of respect for the individual.
