Pros

There are some excellent opportunities to work on new technologies and services in the wireless industry, if you're lucky enough to be in a group assigned to work on them, and have leadership that trusts and empowers their staff to complete the programs. AT&T is trying to stay at the forefront of communications technology by pursuing new products and services, and creating labs and partnerships to encourage innovation among startups and developers.

Cons

The concept of "One AT&T" hasn't really permeated throughout all of the groups. There is still a lot of distrust and competition between marketing, engineering and operations teams. Bureaucracy and inflexibility of policies stifle a lot of otherwise positive energy and initiatives. Career development and advancement are a complete joke. Unless you've got a senior exec mentoring you and helping to get you visibility for promotions, there are no ways to be promoted except to move to a different job at a higher level. Staff at higher management levels like Executive Director, VP and Sr. VP are shuffled around between groups or rearranged in periodic reorganizations, despite job performance or staff morale issues, at the cost of little to no opportunity for directors and other high performing staff to be promoted. Staff morale has been declining for years, due to the lack of opportunities and the constantly shifting strategic initiatives that never quite seem to achieve what's necessary to effectively compete with Verizon.

Pros

One of the best thing about working for AT&T is that it is such a large company. If at anytime you feel that your career is not progressing as you had hoped it would, there are many other opportunities that are available to you.

Cons

Because of the size of AT&T it is really easy to get lost amongst the rank and file unless you are big on self-promoting. I would prefer to do great work and get noticed for it than to do great work and tell my boss about what I did.
