Pros

Live our mission statement & values. Ethical company. Incentive-based programs to promote healthy lifestyle like discounts on healthy food at cafés on campus, doctor/pharmacy onsite, gym onsite with personal trainers at no extra cost, beautiful campus & building facilities, not bureaucratic at all. Access to senior & executive leaders so even though we're large, we all feel like we know Rich & our top-of-the-house crew.

Cons

Benefit package is so amazing so compensation can feel a bit on the middle to low end of indusrty scale - but where else do you get 3-4 weeks vacation your first year and access to so many on campus amenities?

Pros

Associates are encouraged to "Live the values" by volunteering in the community, helping others internally, and giving back to open source projects. Capital One fosters technical development with ample growth opportunities and encouragement to take ownership of your own development. The pay is very competitive. The benefits are comprehensive including very generous 401k automatic contribution and matching.

Cons

It's challenging to "Live the values" by helping others and being selfless while also endorsing yourself to be competitive in cross-calibration for performance management.

Good pay, bureaucratic nightmare

Pros

- The pay is generally in the top 25% for the industry. - They usually promote from within.

Cons

- The bureaucracy is far crazier than anything I've seen in any other company. It can be very difficult to get through the red tape and get things done. Half of the people who work here are there to prevent the other half from doing their jobs. - They hire smart people, but most of them don't have any other experience. So they only know the Capital One way of doing things. They're convinced this is always the best way. - High Potential Program. There is an official "high potential" program they arbitrarily choose people and treat them differently. This creates a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy, but more importantly breeds resentment. - There is a weak approach to expense management. As a result. Most of the office is traveling at any given time even though they don't need to be. People will habitually fly from Toronto to Richmond Virginia for a single short meeting. People go on trips simply because they are young and like to travel. - Some members of senior management are religious fundamentalists and it shows.
