Pros

You get to work alongside some very talented individuals

Cons

Unless you drink the Kool-Aid and kiss up to the right people, you don't have a chance to grow and develop in your career. You are not seen as valuable unless you're titled staff, achievable by doing above, or threaten to quit, that has helped some. Too many meetings making it difficult to focus on project work and business development. Coaching is done to tick off the box, not because you and your growth is valued. If you are an entry level designer or an admin, you may as well be invisible. Although each office and region is different, nothing is done to eradicate the toxic leadership that permeates many of the offices.

Thanks for the feedback. We treat workplace concerns seriously and address them in accordance with our internal policies and procedures. We have multiple channels for reporting issues and we train and encourage our team members to use them. Encouraging everyone to ask questions and provide honest feedback is critical to supporting our culture and our values of integrity, trust and mutual respect. We appreciate your feedback and will share your comments with the firm’s leadership; although without a location as to which office you worked, it's impossible to provide feedback to your regional and office leadership team.

Pros

The people who work at Gensler are amazing people. They truly care about diversity and inclusion and it shows if you spend any amount of time there. The NY office is very clean and it's fun to roam around the different levels. New things are constantly happening every day and there are plenty of groups/events to jump in every week.

Cons

The morale of the employees has been dwindling in recent years. Prior to COVID-19, Gensler had a very strict no working from home policy. This has deterred many young people in the industry from accepting offers, or accepting an offer and leaving after a short amount of time being there. Gensler's turnaround of employees has increased in recent years (specifically at the NYC office) due to too many responsibilities being put on each individual. I saw many people come into their roles glowing with excitement and would become burnt out very quickly due to work load and consistently working overtime. The issue seems to be that Gensler has mounds of work in NY, but they refuse to hire enough people to handle the work. They also will expect you to do more work without a raise.

Pros

Good benefits, some cool clients.

Cons

Very quick to lay people off while keeping employees that are not so skilled just bc they've been w the firm for a long time. Lots of burn out. No consideration for your personal time. Extremely corporate and top down. Firm is extremely money driven. People are not valued. Very little potential for growth. Gensler claims to be people first firm but that is not the case. Lots of egos on the top that mistreat midlevel employees.
