Pros

The level of client (and therefore projects) we are exposed to is almost limitless. As part of the lifestyles NYC studios, I have participated in interviews, documentation and construction of multiple retail projcts that include corner storefronts along Fifth Avenue between 45th street up to 53rd Street. I have been fortunate to work on multiple building types including workplace, entertainment, hospitality, retail and science/technology. You are given the opportunity at Gensler to really spread your wings but you must get used to being out of your comfort zone in order to continue to grow.

Cons

The firm is known for their expertise in their multiple practice areas. However, it is possible to stay in a single area of expertise and not grow beyond that area. That can be detrimental to the individual and the firm at large.

Pros

- Top clients and trusted industry relationships - Wide-ranging project access across many verticals - Top name recognition - Superior IT support, file sharing infrastructure, and cross office collaboration

Cons

- Poor compensation despite promises of non-salary benefits (profit sharing, etc). - There were literally collection jars for designers who didn't make enough money for food [as of 2018], which was appalling. - No time for learning or mentorship, slave to the 40 hour timesheet

Great social place to interact with other architects. lots of free food and wine.

Cons

no advancement unless you're in the in crowd.
