A great way to live abroad post-undergraduate or graduate work. Get good experience in grant writing, grant management, and field research which is helpful if you wish to get a Ph.D. or continue your career in non-profit work.

Cons

Organization is run by academics and has not worked out all of the human resources issues. There can be little communication about benefits or follow-up on employee satisfaction. There is a high turnover rate, compensation low, and an expectation of extended work hours.

Unreasonable workloads, callous management without concern for professional development of staff, selfish and egotistical professor bosses, low staff morale, often unsafe conditions, singular focus on survey work and data collection

- Great level of responsibility even for junior staff - Leadership is very open to suggestions and collaboration - Some of the smartest most dedicated colleagues in the world - Strong strategic plan roll out will grow the impact of our work and address most of the weaknesses listed in Glassdoor reviews over the next 5 years

Cons

- Lots of work to do with very little support staff - Colleagues turn over too quickly - Decision-making structure is not always clear
