MKS has been excellent to me

Pros

MKS really invests in the employees. Between tuition reimbursement, challenging projects, and great opportunities for career advancement within the company, MKS is a great place to grow your career.

Cons

This does not pertain to each department, but communication from Sr. Management is sometimes non-existent. While it would be nice if the contributors were surveyed and problems addressed, more direct communication from upper management on the direction of the company needs to happen. 401k match (3%) and healthcare coverage for families could be better.

Thank you for your response. We are thrilled to read that MKS has been excellent to you. We couldn’t ask for a better compliment. We recognize employees as our most valued asset, so we strongly support career growth and development. We offer useful benefits to help our employees thrive, including an excellent tuition reimbursement program. Thank you for the candid feedback regarding communications. Our goal is to continually improve; your feedback helps us better identify areas of focus. Currently senior management hosts annual company-wide and divisional townhalls, but we will continue to look into more opportunities to increase visibility and engagement. We also have leaders connect through videos and updates on Insight (our employee intranet). Insight is always a great place to see our latest news from leaders and colleagues across the organization. Pros

(My reviews are unique to my particular small location) Flexible, low-stress, good direct management, lots of autonomy (until corporate steps in), positive work environment/co-workers (though not very social, so if that's what you're looking for, this place isn't for you), great pay and good benefits (the employee stock plan is especially nice).

Cons

No one at our site has authority to make even relatively small decisions. Off-site mid-level management has no clear chain of command and takes inordinately long to make decisions we should have been enabled to make at the local level to begin with. Often, the decisions that are made by corporate/mid-level are not only not timely, but also have negative effects on our business (alienate vendors and customers, cost us extra money, etc. Also, I feel that corporate talks about employee engagement, but doesn't walk the walk. I feel valued at the local level but feel like corporate doesn't even know I exist, let alone care about me or my contributions. For example, we have had two forced shutdowns in less than two months during which the company required employees to use their accrued vacation. I feel there are probably better ways to boost the company balance sheets without alienating employees.

Thank you for your honest feedback. We are glad to read you have a strong local connection and work experience. That is so important. We appreciate your opinion on corporate matters and we value your contributions. Historically, we have a shutdown during the holiday season, so employees are able to take a break and spend time with their families. This quarter we did ask employees to use their accrued time off in the quarter in which they earned it. This decision was made as part of a holistic strategy that will further strengthen our organization for long-term success. Like many companies, we are operating in an environment of increased economic uncertainty. At times, we have needed to be proactive and evaluate our business needs and adjust accordingly. This has included shutdowns to align with cost-savings efforts. These are short-term solutions that will better enable our success for the long-term. Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to read you had a positive experience with our company culture. Having a work environment filled with professional, skilled team members who are collaborative and invested in everyone’s success makes it enjoyable to come to work every day. Not to mention the powerful impact a healthy work-life balance has on your overall wellbeing. You are right: resourcing is a challenge facing many organizations today. We are striving to make process improvements in identified areas as quickly and effectively as we are able and will continue to do so.
