Not as good as it seems

Pros

Good benefits. Most of the people are nice. They make you feel welcome and appreciated until you're discarded like trash.

Cons

They seem to exercise the "at will" employment part of the contract frequently and are ruthless with the firing. Maybe this wasn't always the case but it seems to be now. Management doesn't know how to deliver critical feedback. They will blow smoke up your behind telling you that you're doing a great job. It seems that the first time you will hear negative feedback is the day they fire you for it. Your coworkers might take month long vacations leaving you to support the whole team and show their gratitude for covering for them by stabbing you in the back. Your coworkers may refuse to have meetings and then it's your responsibility to bridge the gap for noncooperative people. It "seems" like a great place to work but it's all lies.

Pros

A good foundational product and people who want to make the company what it once was. Used to have great benefits eg unlimited PTO but these have changed. Inspiring CEO but sadly out of touch with real employees now. A great culture but it’s been sacrificed for growth. Some folks still believe in remote and async values but this is broadly gone.

Cons

The desperation for series C has meant ruthless cutting of staff (three rounds of layoffs in 2 years + lots of firing) and zero regard for compensation changes and HR best practices. Was without an HR dept for a couple of years and no performance reviews. Salaries are incredibly variable based on where you live with ~$100k disparity between team members on the same responsibility level. They won’t hire in many EU countries due to employment laws around wellbeing etc. The company keeps changing its strategy and goals, then doesn’t give the team time to enact these, says they’re not working and does another ‘restructure’. They use people as scapegoats for poor planning and leadership.

Pros

Great people, competitive salary and benefits

Cons

Company is on the AI train, ignoring table stakes features. Hours are “flexible” but the workload is extremely high.
